As part of the ongoing Special Campaign 6.0, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare organised a health check-up camp and a ‘Samvaad’ programme for Safai Mitras (sanitation workers) at Kartavya Bhawan-1. Conducted under the Ministry’s Kayakalp activities, the initiatives focused on promoting the health and well-being of Safai Mitras, recognising their contribution to maintaining hygienic workplaces and strengthening a culture of cleanliness.

Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare and Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Ayush, Shri Prataprao Jadhav visited the health check-up camp and interacted with Safai Mitras. During the visit, he enquired about their health and well-being and expressed appreciation for their dedicated efforts in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene across the Ministry’s premises. Dr. L.G. Krishna, Director General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, was also present.

As part of Special Campaign 6.0, Shri Jadhav also undertook a round of the Ministry’s office premises to take stock of cleanliness and hygiene. During the visit, he reviewed the cleanliness of the office premises and took stock of the upkeep of the working environment.

The health check-up camp provided Safai Mitras with essential health screening and consultation services, including Body Mass Index (BMI) assessment based on height and weight, blood pressure measurement, blood sugar testing and haemoglobin testing. General medicine consultations, basic eye check-ups and Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) examinations were also conducted to assess their health status and facilitate early identification of potential health concerns.

As part of the Special Campaign 6.0 activities, the Ministry also organised a ‘Samvaad’ programme to acknowledge the important role of Safai Mitras in ensuring clean and hygienic workplaces. Joint Secretary Shri Elangbam Robert Singh interacted with the Safai Mitras and thanked them for their dedicated service. He emphasised the importance of making cleanliness an integral part of everyday life, maintaining hygienic surroundings and instilling these values in future generations. The programme also provided Safai Mitras with an opportunity to share their experiences, feedback and suggestions.

The initiatives under Special Campaign 6.0 underscored the Ministry’s commitment to promoting cleanliness alongside the health, dignity and well-being of those who play a vital role in maintaining hygienic workplaces. By bringing together cleanliness reviews, preventive healthcare, recognition and dialogue, the Ministry reinforced the importance of collective responsibility and sustained efforts towards a clean, healthy and inclusive working environment.
