The Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign, held from 17th September, 2026 to 2nd October, 2026, saw the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG) take part together with the CPSEs under its administrative control and its attached offices. It opened on 17th September, 2026 with a pledge-taking ceremony administered by Secretary (PNG) at Kartavya Bhawan-3, New Delhi.
Throughout the drive, the Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas kept a regular check on progress and directed every stakeholder to maximise participation and step up efforts to make the campaign even stronger.
Transformation of Cleanliness Target Units and Public Spaces
As part of the first pillar, the Ministry and its organisations carried out cleaning and transformation work at identified sites, along with initiatives that covered markets, neighbourhoods, toilets, offices and water bodies.
A total of 9,845 CTUs were transformed with the involvement of 99,548 people, while 937 public spaces were cleaned with contributions from 45,526 participants.
To promote clean and conserved water resources, 143 cleanliness drives were held at water bodies, drawing 1,264 individuals. Another 543 mohalla cleanliness drives were also organised.
To build cleanliness and environmental awareness among young people, the campaign brought in students, educational institutions and community stakeholders.
Reported activities drew 18,700 schoolchildren in all, covering awareness and demonstration activities, stakeholder engagement, school-level cleanliness initiatives, Jal Sanchay Samvad and Gyan Yatra. Gyan Yatra activities alone recorded 3,109 student participants.
In recognition of the vital role played by sanitation workers, the Ministry's organisations held 234 Safai Mitra Suraksha Evam Samman Shivir, which saw 7,098 sanitation workers take part.
A total of 276 preventive health check-ups were arranged for 4,365 participants, and 3,518 PPE kits were handed out. These steps underline the focus on the safety, health, dignity and welfare access of sanitation workers.
Awareness campaigns, composting initiatives, plastic-reduction activities and community events were used to draw citizens into the campaign. It recorded 450 composting awareness drives, 154 Sports for Swachhta activities with 3,530 participants, and Say No to Plastics activities with 2,662 participants, which together encouraged sustainable waste management and community involvement in cleanliness efforts.
The fifth pillar centred on waste-to-wealth initiatives and the circular economy, such as Kabaad Se Jugaad and Kabaad Se Kala. Reported results include engagement with 191 art colleges and institutions, 175 plastic recycling melas, assessment of 135 Plastic Waste Management Units (PWMUs), and 687 entries under Kabaad Se Jugaad as well as 607 entries under Kabaad Se Kala.
Such activities promoted the creative reuse of waste and raised awareness about resource recovery and sustainable waste management.
These results are the outcome of joint efforts by the Ministry, its CPSEs and associated organisations, employees, students, sanitation workers and citizens. By combining cleanliness drives, awareness programmes, welfare camps and waste-management initiatives, the campaign aimed to deepen public participation and encourage people to make cleanliness a lasting habit.
Contributing to the larger vision of a clean and developed India, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas continues to stand committed to promoting cleanliness, environmental responsibility and community participation.
