The Chairman, Rajya Sabha, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan today met the Russian parliamentary delegation led by the Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, H.E. Mr. Vyacheslav Volodin, in New Delhi.

Welcoming H.E. Mr. Vyacheslav Volodin and the accompanying Russian delegation, the Chairman, Rajya Sabha expressed pleasure at meeting them and congratulated H.E. Mr. Vyacheslav Volodin on his re-election as the Chairman of the State Duma. He also extended his congratulations on the successful conduct of the election of deputies to the ninth convocation of the State Duma in September 2026.

Recalling recent special gestures reflecting the close ties between the two nations, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan mentioned that it was immensely pleasing when the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shriman Narendra Modi Ji, gifted a Russian edition of the Thirukkural to H.E. President Vladimir Putin during the BRICS Summit in Delhi in September 2026.

Highlighting the regular exchanges between parliamentarians of both countries, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan recalled key recent high-level visit of Ms. Kanimozhi Karunanidhi in May 2025 along with five Members of Parliament to Russia in the context of the Pahalgam terror attack and India’s Operation Sindoor and in December 2025 during the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit held during the State visit of President Vladimir Putin to India.

Referring to key pillars of bilateral cooperation, the Chairman noted that preparations are currently underway for the 80th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Russia. He expressed gratitude to Russia for its continued support toward the joint resolve of both nations in countering terrorism. On the economic front, he expressed firm confidence that both countries will achieve the bilateral trade target of USD 100 billion in annual trade by 2030, as agreed upon by the leadership of both nations. He also identified inter-regional cooperation, science and technology, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people ties as other vital areas of ongoing cooperation.

In conclusion, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan stated that such discussions play a vital role in understanding mutual priorities, sharing experiences, and exploring actionable avenues for collaboration, and reaffirmed the commitment to further strengthening ties for the mutual benefit of the people of both nations.

During the Call on, Hon’ble Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha Shri Harivansh; Hon’ble Members of Rajya Sabha Shri Raghav Chadha; Dr. K. Laxman; Shri Sujeet Kumar; Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi; Dr. Laxmi Kant Bajpai; Dr. Radha Mohan Das Agrawal; Shri Sanjay Kumar Jha; Secretary-General Rajya Sabha Shri P.C.
