The Customs officers of the SIIB branch, Air Cargo Complex Import, New Customs House, New Delhi, have busted one of the biggest smuggling attempts of narcotic substances. acting on locally developed intelligence, officers intercepted a consignment from Bangkok and uncovered a massive haul of green‑colored NDPS substance, suspected to be ganja/marijuana, concealed inside spools of PU Tubes.

The consignment, declared as PU Tubes packed in 19 cartons, was put on hold due to suspected mis‑declaration. on examination in the presence of the importer’s representative, officers found plastic spools containing PU Tubes. When the spools were broken open, hidden cavities revealed packets of compacted green substance wrapped in polythene. such packets were discovered in 15 cartons. preliminary diagnostic tests indicated the material to be ganja/marijuana.

In total, 120 spools concealed 148.67 kg hydroponic weed. The seized narcotics are valued at approximately Rs. 52 crore, with an estimated street value of Rs. 150 crore in India. The contraband, along with concealment and packaging material, has been seized under the NDPS Act, 1985. Further investigation is in progress.

The operation lasted over 72 hours and culminated in the arrest of one person on 15.10.2026, who was produced before the magistrate the same day. Follow‑up searches at five premises across three states have provided vital leads for ongoing investigation. The entire operation was closely monitored by senior customs officers at the level of chief commissioner and principal commissioner, ACC Imports, and supervised by the additional commissioner of Customs, ACC imports.

Driven by huge profits, smugglers attempt to bring such illicit goods into the country. Customs officers remain vigilant and committed to protecting society from the menace of narcotics.
