At the age of 28, Mr. Aarav Kumar (name changed), is pursuing his Ph.D. in Electronic and Electrical Engineering. His journey highlights the role of the National Overseas Scholarship (NOS) Scheme in facilitating access to international higher education, reducing financial barriers and enabling talented scholars to pursue advanced research opportunities.

With a strong interest in research and innovation, Mr. Aarav aspired to pursue doctoral studies abroad to gain exposure to advanced research facilities, international academic practices and emerging developments in his field. His family consistently encouraged his educational ambitions and supported his pursuit of academic excellence.

However, pursuing higher education abroad involved considerable financial commitments, including tuition fees, accommodation, living expenses, travel and other academic requirements. Managing these expenses while continuing doctoral research posed significant challenges. Adapting to a new country and a different academic and cultural environment also brought new learning experiences.

A significant turning point came through the National Overseas Scholarship (NOS) Scheme of the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. Under the scheme, he received financial assistance towards tuition fees, maintenance and living expenses, travel and other eligible academic expenditure, in accordance with the approved scheme provisions. The assistance, sanctioned on 1 October 2024, provided him with the necessary financial support to pursue his doctoral studies with greater confidence and focus.

The assistance enabled Mr. Aarav to concentrate on his research, access an advanced academic environment and benefit from international research exposure and professional guidance. The financial support helped ease the burden of educational expenses and strengthened his ability to pursue his academic goals. It also provided him with opportunities to enhance his research capabilities and gain valuable international academic experience.

The scholarship has added significant value to his academic and professional journey. With financial constraints eased, Mr. Aarav has been able to continue working towards his Ph.D. and strengthen his expertise in Electronic and Electrical Engineering. His progress has also become a source of encouragement for his family and community, highlighting how institutional support and access to higher education can help scholars pursue ambitious academic goals.

Mr. Aarav continues his doctoral journey with renewed confidence, determination and a commitment to academic excellence. He aspires to contribute meaningful research to his field, build professional expertise and bring recognition to India through his academic achievements. His journey reflects the importance of educational assistance in creating opportunities for talented students from Scheduled Caste communities to participate in the global knowledge and research ecosystem.
