From Oct 2 to 31, 2026, the Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL) under the Union Ministry of Education is conducting Special Campaign 6. The campaign aims to make administration more efficient, keep school campuses clean and manage electronic waste (e-waste) responsibly, while motivating students and communities to follow sustainable practices.
The key areas covered under Special Campaign 6 are:
Reducing Pending Official Work and Improving Efficiency
To cut down pending official work, the Department and its organisations are reviewing files, digitising records, weeding out obsolete files and strengthening record management. These measures are meant to simplify administrative procedures, free up office space for better use and raise efficiency.
Keeping School Campuses Clean
Schools across the country are organising cleanliness drives under the leadership of Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE to keep their campuses hygienic. The goal is to create a shared sense of responsibility for cleanliness among students and staff and to support healthier learning spaces.
Building e-Waste Awareness and Collection in Schools
As part of Special Campaign 6, schools across the nation are running e-waste awareness and collection drives through Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE. These activities help students and teachers see why managing e-waste responsibly is important.
Through these activities, students learn about the environmental impact of electronic waste and are encouraged to participate in managing it. The drives promote cutting down on e-waste and disposing of discarded equipment through authorized channels.
These efforts seek to build environment-friendly habits among students and boost the role of schools in sustainable practices.
e-Waste Bins and a Mural at Kartavya Bhavan 2
DoSEL set up an e-waste mural and collection bins at Kartavya Bhavan 2 on International e-waste Day, October 14, 2026. The 50 kg of e-waste used to create the mural was collected by school students. In line with the vision of the National Education Policy 2020 and Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE, the mural conveys the message “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle”. The bins provide a dedicated spot for discarded electronic items and draw attention to responsible e-waste management in institutions.
On October 16, 2026, Shri T. K. Anil Kumar, Secretary, DoSEL, held a video conference with States/UTs and autonomous bodies to review preparations for the nationwide e-waste awareness and collection drive scheduled for October 28, 2026. He explained the planned activities, including the IEC campaign, and underlined the need for a plan to hand over e-waste collected by schools to authorized vendors.
By combining school cleanliness drives with e-waste awareness and collection through Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE, Special Campaign 6 shows how collective action can help create clean and environmentally responsible educational institutions.
