Special Campaign 6 was observed from October 2 – 31, 2026 by the Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL), Union Ministry of Education, with a nationwide focus on administrative efficiency, cleanliness and responsible e-waste management. The Campaign mobilised schools, students, teachers and the community to promote sustainable practices and strengthen environmental awareness under the aegis of Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE.

Minimising Pendency and Enhancing Efficiency in Official Work

The Department and its autonomous bodies focused on minimising pendency in official work, reviewing files across various categories, weeding out obsolete files and strengthening record management practices. As part of these efforts, 41,181 files were reviewed and 31,010 files were weeded out. The Campaign resulted in 1,84,828 sq. ft. of office space being freed and revenue generation of ₹67.27 lakh through the disposal of scrap. Over seven lakh cleanliness campaigns were conducted in schools and offices under the Department. 58.79 lakh e-waste items were collected by 2.02 crore students and teachers from 2.85 lakh schools across the country during the preparatory and implementation phase of Special Campaign 6 from 16.9.2026 to 31.10.2026.

One-day nationwide event on Oct 28, 2026

As part of Special Campaign 6, schools across states, UTs and autonomous bodies participated in a mega e-waste management drive on Oct 28, 2026. The objectives of the initiative were to reduce e-waste, reuse and refurbish electronic items wherever feasible and ensure that discarded items were handed over to authorised recyclers and refurbishers. Around 1.89 lakh schools organised a quiz on e-waste in the morning assembly.

The students also showcased their creativity through an exhibition of Waste to Wonder creations made using discarded e-waste items in New Delhi. Discarded electronic equipment/their parts were repurposed into creative and useful objects. Minister of State for Education, Shri Jayant Chaudhary visited the Exhibition on the same day (Oct 28, 2026).

At the national-level event organised in New Delhi, e-waste that was collected during the Campaign, was handed over to CPCB certified recycler by Secretary, Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), Smt. Nivedita Shukla Verma, and Secretary, DoSEL, Shri T. K. Anil Kumar, for disposal and processing.

Installation of E-waste bins and mural at Kartavya Bhavan 2

To mark International e-waste Day on October 14, 2026, DoSEL installed an e-waste mural and e-waste bins at Kartavya Bhavan 2. The mural was made from 60 kg of e-waste collected by school students.

Strengthening environmental responsibility through school education

Special Campaign 6 reinforced the role of schools as important centres for developing environmentally responsible behaviour among children and young people. Over 6.29 lakh e-waste awareness workshops were organised in schools across the country during the preparatory phase of the Special Campaign 6. Through e-waste collection drives, awareness activities, creative exhibitions and cleanliness campaigns, students were provided opportunities to translate environmental awareness into meaningful action.

Nationwide activities were organised by the Department under Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE in schools and communities to promote sustainable lifestyle practices, responsible waste management and cleaner and healthier learning environments.
