In a unique gesture of gratitude and respect for the Indian Navy's unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation's maritime frontiers, Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) a subsidiary of Coal India Limited under the Ministry of Coal, on Friday presented a specially crafted model of a warship to the 1 Bengal NCC Naval Unit, Group Headquarters NCC Kolkata ‘C’. Made from discarded components of coal mining machinery, the model symbolises the shared spirit of service, dedication and nation-building that unites coal miners and naval personnel.

The model was meticulously designed and fabricated at ECL's Neamatpur Central Workshop under the ‘Waste to Wealth’ initiative of Special Campaign 6, being implemented across ECL under the guidance of Dr. Satish Jha, Chairman-cum-Managing Director. The creation showcases the technical ingenuity and craftsmanship of ECL's workforce, transforming industrial scrap into a symbol of national pride while promoting resource reutilisation and sustainability.

On behalf of the Chairman-cum-Managing Director, the Functional Directors and the entire ECL Parivar, Maj. S. Tiwari, Chief of Security, ECL, accompanied by Ms. Nishchal Soni, Manager (HR), Neamatpur Central Workshop, presented the model to Commodore Caesar Basu and Commander Sanjib Saran of the Indian Navy as a token of appreciation for the Armed Forces' dedicated service to the nation.

The warship model is among 10 different models created by ECL under the ‘Waste to Wealth’ initiative during the ongoing Special Campaign 6, each conveying a symbolic message on themes of public importance. Developed by creatively repurposing discarded materials, these models highlight the potential of industrial waste as a resource for innovation and meaningful expression.

The initiative reflects ECL's emphasis on innovative waste management, recycling and resource conservation. It also demonstrates how the technical skills and creativity of its workforce can contribute to environmental sustainability while promoting the principles of a circular economy.

The presentation stands as a distinctive expression of appreciation from ECL's coal miners to the Indian Navy, bringing together the values of service, sustainability and national pride. From the depths of coal mines to the vast expanse of the seas, the spirit of serving the nation remains a common bond.
