At 32, Pavithran S (name changed), a scholar from Ranipet district of Tamil Nadu, aspired to complete his Ph.D. and build a strong academic and professional career. As the first student at his institution to receive the fellowship under the National Fellowship for Scheduled Caste Students (NFSC) Scheme, he encountered certain initial administrative challenges. These included the creation of Maker and Checker IDs at the institutional level to facilitate the processing of fellowship-related formalities.

The NFSC Scheme provided him with timely financial assistance to continue his academic journey. His fellowship support began in March 2023 and included fellowship assistance, House Rent Allowance (HRA) and contingency support. An amount of Rs 5 lakh has been provided to him under the scheme.

The financial assistance helped address an important challenge faced by the scholar during his higher studies. He stated that the support was very helpful in pursuing his Ph.D. and also contributed to the financial stability of his family. By easing financial concerns, the fellowship enabled him to continue working towards his academic goals with greater confidence.

The support under the scheme has also had a positive impact on his professional journey. Pavithran is currently employed full-time and acknowledges that the NFSC fellowship has played a significant role in developing his career. He credits the scheme with providing the support needed to sustain his academic pursuits alongside his professional responsibilities.

For Pavithran, the NFSC Scheme represents more than financial assistance. It has been a meaningful source of encouragement in his pursuit of doctoral education, strengthened his family's financial stability and contributed to his career development. His experience reflects the role of targeted educational support in enabling scholars to pursue higher learning and work towards their aspirations.
