NHAI has expanded dust-control operations on Delhi-NCR highways ahead of winter. Its deployment includes about 60 water sprinklers and tankers, 14 anti-smog guns, 23 mechanical road sweepers, two tractor-mounted broomers and more than 900 workers. An additional 13 sweepers are working along 157 km of highway stretches.
Following a review, NHAI Member (Technical) Alok Deepankar instructed teams to maintain equipment and manpower deployment, regular water sprinkling, anti-smog operations and daily mechanical cleaning. Teams must follow CAQM requirements, cover construction materials and intensify action according to the applicable GRAP stage. Officials are to track work each day and provide progress reports supported by geo-tagged photographs.
The authority reported planting around 9.80 lakh plants in NCR during FY 2025-26, exceeding its 9.52 lakh target. Survival exceeded 90 percent. It also reused about 13.58 lakh tonnes of inert material from Delhi landfills in embankments for UER-II and the DND–Sohna corridor.
The review examined traffic relief from UER-II, Dwarka Expressway, DND–Sohna Expressway and Delhi–Dehradun Expressway. It also called for faster work on proposed decongestion projects and timely responses to complaints submitted through the Green Delhi app and social media.
NHAI said its winter efforts combine dust reduction, improved road maintenance and smoother traffic movement to support better air quality across the region.
