A nationwide Green Diwali initiative is being organised by WWF-India's Programme Centre–Resource Partner with support from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. Running from 20.10.2026 to 08.11.2026, it encourages celebrations without firecrackers, in keeping with Mission LiFE. Schools, colleges, neighbourhood associations and community organisations are being invited to participate, particularly in the 130 cities covered by the National Clean Air Programme.
The initiative invites participants to make a Green Diwali pledge, avoid firecrackers and encourage others to join them. Suggested actions include choosing traditional lamps or efficient lighting, limiting disposable plastics, sorting household waste and supporting locally made goods. Educational and community groups can arrange pledge activities at assemblies, classroom sessions or neighbourhood meetings.
Participants can use WWF-India's Carbon Footprint Survey to reflect on how travel, consumption and daily routines affect the environment. The survey can be accessed at https://wwfindiawebgis.in/Carbon_Footprint/Carbon_Footprint.html.. Schools, EIACP centres, community organisations and individual participants are also asked to document their campaign activities through the online form at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/15hDbjbqZzeo68kNjAxeHQA_SMIQ7lUlPdvCIi-gvwdY/viewform..
Reports should identify the participating institution or group, its location, the activity date and description, the number of people who signed the pledge, and provide location-tagged photographs plus a short activity summary. Selected submissions may appear on EIACP's online channels.
