The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) intercepted a suspected cross-border consignment in Uttar Pradesh and recovered 591.3 kg of cannabis. The intelligence-led interception took place during 17–18 October 2026, after officers tracked a truck believed to have brought the substance from Nepal. The drugs were hidden in specially constructed sections of the vehicle.
Following a tip-off about a truck entering from Nepal through Sonauli, the DRI's Gorakhpur unit worked with officers from Lucknow, Patna and Varanasi. Their surveillance continued for over four hours before the vehicle was stopped along the Gorakhpur–Kushinagar road.
Inspectors found compartments built into two parts of the truck: above its hood and behind the driver's seat. Inside them were 81 packets with a combined weight of 591.3 kg.
Authorities confiscated both the truck and its cargo under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
The interception highlights how coordinated intelligence work can uncover concealed drug shipments. It also draws attention to the continuing need for checks along routes suspected of being used for trafficking across national borders.
