Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal met Saudi Arabia's Assistant Minister of Energy for Electricity Affairs, Engineer Nasser Al-Qahtani, in an online bilateral discussion. The officials reviewed the planned India–Saudi Arabia electrical interconnection and considered how the two countries could expand cooperation on electricity.

The proposed grid connection was the central subject of the meeting. Both governments exchanged views on the next steps and agreed that ongoing discussions would be important to move the initiative forward.

Beyond the interconnection project, the officials identified opportunities for exchanging technical expertise and experiences and sharing effective approaches in the wider power sector.

Saudi Arabia showed interest in working together on extra-high-voltage transmission, integration of a growing share of renewable electricity into grids, meeting electricity demand from developing data centres and modernising grid codes as power-system needs change.

The two countries reiterated their intention to keep the dialogue going and develop their electricity-sector partnership.
