The Defence Ministry has contracted Bharat Electronics Limited to supply Improved Low Level Light Weight Radars for the Indian Army. The agreement, worth approximately ₹770 crore, was signed in New Delhi on October 21, 2026, in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
The LLLR-I system can detect and track aircraft-sized targets as well as mini and micro drones. It also prioritises aerial targets. These capabilities are intended to strengthen the Army’s response to threats from unmanned aerial systems.
The ministry places the purchase within its effort to develop indigenous air-defence equipment and the government’s Viksit Bharat @2047 vision. It expects the order to support India’s defence manufacturing network, including micro, small and medium enterprises, while contributing to a resilient and self-reliant industry able to compete internationally.
