The Department of Posts, which functions under the Ministry of Communications, has recorded significant progress in the implementation phase of Special Campaign 6, which is being carried out at postal establishments across the country from 2nd to 31st October 2026. The campaign seeks to institutionalize Swachhata, cut down pendency, encourage efficient record management and ensure e-waste is disposed of responsibly, while also improving the working environment and the citizen experience at postal establishments.
As part of Special Campaign 6, the Department has fixed ambitious targets: resolving 1,50,000 public grievances, disposing of 1,500 appeals and conducting cleanliness drives at 1,35,000 sites across the country. The campaign takes forward the Department’s ongoing work towards efficient public service delivery, accountable governance and sustainable office management.
Significant Progress Till 16th October 2026
During the implementation phase, the Department has logged the following achievements:
Cleanliness Drives: Cleanliness activities have been carried out at 73,814 sites, post offices included, which is roughly 55% of the overall target of 1,35,000 sites.
Public Grievance Redressal: Against the campaign target of 1,50,000, a total of 1,00,214 public grievances have been resolved, or roughly 67% of the target.
Appeal Disposal: Against the target of 1,500, 764 appeals have been disposed of, or roughly 51% of the target.
Scrap Disposal and Revenue Generation: Since 2nd October 2026, a total of 3,06,026 kg of scrap has been disposed of, bringing in revenue of ₹67.56 lakh.
E-Waste Management: Keeping with the campaign’s emphasis on scientific e-waste management, 17,980 kg of e-waste has been disposed of, bringing in revenue of ₹27.64 lakh. These steps show the Department’s commitment to handling and disposing of obsolete electronic equipment responsibly.
Innovative Initiatives: Turning Waste into Wealth
Postal Circles have also taken up innovative initiatives that encourage recycling, reuse and productive use of the resources already available.
In the West Bengal Circle, departmental carpenters and Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) used recycled wooden scrap to renovate the Senior Manager’s Chamber at the Mail Motor Service (MMS), Kolkata. The initiative is a good example of the “Waste to Wealth” concept, showing how discarded materials can be reused creatively to upgrade office infrastructure.
Citizen-Centric Governance and Service Delivery
Among its citizen-centric initiatives, the Department has also launched DigiPost, a phygital mail service under which traffic e-challans issued by Gujarat Police are sent digitally and then physically delivered to citizens. The initiative highlights how the postal network, with its wide physical reach, can help deliver digitally generated citizen services.
For the rest of Special Campaign 6, the Department of Posts will step up its efforts to meet the prescribed targets, keep up cleanliness practices, ensure scientific e-waste management and strengthen its commitment to responsive, efficient and citizen-centric governance.
