On October 20, 2026, Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah will meet families of those who lost their lives —in Mansa, Sangrur and Gurdaspur— for speaking against 'chitta' (synthetic drug) traders in Punjab.
Writing on the X platform, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah said the Punjab government has left no stone unturned in pushing the state into an abyss of drug abuse, leaving many families to mourn the loss of their children. He said the grief these families are going through cannot be expressed in words. According to him, efforts to silence those speaking out against this dark drug trade will never succeed, and the people of the state will give a fitting reply. Shri Shah said the Government of India will hunt down those involved in the 'chitta' trade and put them behind bars, making sure that Punjab, along with the entire country, is fully freed from this drug menace.
